I haven't always been passionate about fitness. I’ve walked into the gym wanting to workout, but having no idea what to do, where to start or even how to operate all the equipment. Completely overwhelmed by all the machinery, I’d often just default to spending a little while on one of the cardio machines until that got too boring. I’ve ridden the yo-yo diet rollercoaster, drastically reducing calories and losing weight only to gain it all back (and more!). I’ve had thyroid disease since I was a teenager, which certainly doesn't help with maintaining energy levels and reaching body composition goals. Tired, lost, and unmotivated are all emotions that I can understand because I have been there myself.
I became certified as a personal trainer in February 2020, just before the pandemic hit. I transitioned to an online training platform and found that virtual training works remarkably well. We don’t need to live in the same city, state or time zone to work together to get you the results that you want! Now that life has returned to normal, in-person training sessions are a great option for those who do live in the same or neighboring zip codes.
In addition to honing my virtual training skills, I used the quarantine time to dive head first into learning all that I could about anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics and nutrition. Since February of 2020, I have completed several certification programs in corrective exercise, bodybuilding, human movement, and nutrition. I devote some time every day to studying these topics in deeper detail. There is always more to learn! I’m currently working on an Integrative and Functional Nutrition certification through the Integrative & Functional Nutrition Academy.
To me, personal training is not just preparing your workout. It is understanding why your body defaults to certain movement patterns, how these contribute to your pain and injuries, and what course of action will correct this dysfunctional movement. I invest significant time into developing your comprehensive training program and the end result is that your plan is uniquely tailored to be appropriate for your body and in line with your fitness goals.
I use my own experiences, past struggles and qualifications to help people just like you. People looking to build muscle, lose fat, increase strength and stability, and overcome pain and injury.
